Pioneer Park and 1st Street Rapids Park

Pioneer Park and 1st Street Rapids Park

Pioneer Park for me, until now, was a park with no access to hiking trails. Just a close place to enjoy your lunch if you worked downtown. Has pretty beds of flowers and good for some functions like wedding receptions. Now a trail links it with the 1st Street Rapids Park. Both parks benefit because 1st Street Rapids Park never had much parking with just enough space for 4 cars. Now you can park at the Pioneer Park and walk over.

This park is filled with plaques

The trail is behind Pioneer Park along the river. Its paved from the park to the bridge. Along the way you have a close view of the dam. Took photos of since someday the city or power company is going to demolish it someday because its outlived its usefulness being around 100 years old.

Most people  with common sense should know this but it does not hurt to put this photo as a reminder.  Even  20 feet away is pushing it.
Lots of remnants of house foundations with stairs that go no where. Apparently there was some swimming pool close by.
Even putting you boat in ahead of the dam there is some danger

The bridge that links the two parks together

The trail the follows the river starting from the 1st Street Rapids Park actually hooks up the trails from Sawyer Park. To get there you follow Mount Washington Driver that goes through Rivers Edge Golf Course. You cross the road when see a golf card road parallel with a gavel road. The gavel road is the one you want to take. If you click on the photo you can just see it to the right of the golf course. Watch out for golf ball and Yellow-bellied marmot running around.
